Making Cookies with Grandma

April3

Sounds like a “Grandma-ish” thing to do!! I’m not big on baking, as I’ve said before, but it’s something that the girls have so much fun with! I’m so thankful for my mom, Grandma Cheryl, Aunt Bekah, Aunt Kim, Grandma Gee Gee, Ms. Sherry and all the other people who are more adventurous than I when it comes to baking with a 2- and 4-year-old! I do love to let the girls help me in the kitchen with preparing meals, but I just don’t like messing with flour and sugar and eggs! I just like to be the photographer when someone else bakes with my girls! :) Anyway, here’s some pretty cute pictures of Grace and Kessed making Grandma Vera’s famous (in my book anyway!) Sugar Cookies. I’ve included the recipe at the end if anyone’s interested in trying them!

Kessed get the cookie cutters ready! They make a great bracelet, ya know!

Kessed’s tired of making cookies - let’s just eat the dough!

Ready for the oven

Watching and waiting

Grandma Vera’s Sugar Cookies

Cream together:

1 C. shortening

2 C. sugar

2 Eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 tsp. lemon flavor

Sift together:

4 1/2 C. flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

5 tsp. baking powder

Add 8 Tbsp. milk to creamed mixture. Add sifted ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well. Roll out and cut with cookie cutters. (My favorite part of the recipe………..) BAKE TIL DONE at 375 degrees. Guess you just have to watch them like Kessed! :)

Makes A LOT of cookies

Buttercream Frosting:

Soften 1/2 Cup margarine. Stir in 2 C. powdered sugar and add 1 tsp. vanilla. If too thin, add drops of water; if too thick, add more powdered sugar until desired consistency.
